The Iowa Cafe is a new partnership between Iowa's Area Agencies on Aging and licensed food service establishments like restaurants and cafes. Participants are given a credit card-style or keychain card-style card to use at local participating restaurants. Meals are provided on a voluntary contribution basis, and individuals will be given the opportunity to contribute towards the cost of the meal. Maximum monthly meals are reduced from 12 to 6. Cards may only be swiped at a participant's "home base" location; cannot offer service across multiple sites for one participant

Register by filling out a Registration Form. Once the registration is processed, clients will receive a key card in the mail. When visiting a participating restaurant, clients choose an item from the Iowa Cafe menu and use the key card to pay.

Recreational, social, and nutritional programming to meet the needs of seniors 60 years of age or older. Membership is free and any costs are suggested contributions.


The center serves a lunch each day at 12 pm, sponsored by for seniors age 60 and older at a suggested $4 contribution. Individuals below the age of 60 are welcome to participate in the meal program for $10 per meal.

Monthly live musical entertainment, social activities such as Bingo and coordinated outings, various support groups, book and gardening clubs, crafts and a weekly Bible study are also provided.

Provides a nutrition program that includes home-delivered and congregate meals that are prepared through the Meal Site located on the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska reservation. The congregate meals are served during the lunch hour Monday-Friday. Home-delivered meals are delivered to persons in poorer health. In order to receive home-delivered meals, seniors need to be present for congregate meals two times a week unless health ailments interfere.

Other services that are provided include information/referral, outreach, transportation, homemaker, chore, telephoning, and visiting. The caregiver program provides a temporary period of relief or rest for caregiver of a frail elder in the form of in home respite care, adult day care respite, or respite for an overnight stay on an intermittent, occasional, or emergency basis.

Offers a Lending Closet with medical equipment to be used on a loan basis.

Congregate Meals - All participating senior centers participate in both congregate meal and home delivered meal programs to help ensure the basic wellness of seniors. For those lacking a proper nutritious meal or unable to obtain meals by normal means, call the local senior center for assistance.

Grand Island Senior Dine - Voucher based dining experience at the local Hy-Vee Cafe for those seniors who may not be able to get to the senior center often. To apply, call the Grand Island Midland Area Agency on Aging Office at (402) 463-4565 for more information and to set up an appointment to receive vouchers.

-- Voucher may be used for dine in only at Hy-Vee Caf (Hickory House).

-- Limited to one meal per day through the Older Americans Act. -- The one daily meal must be at one of the three Older American Act meal sites - Grand Generation Senior Center, Hy-Vee, or Regency Apartments.

-- Participants are limited to receive 10 voucher meal cards per month.

Offers a day program where people battling different mental illnesses can socialize and gather in a safe environment.

Members make their own event and lunch calendars each month, cook lunches on a daily basis and help keep the clubhouse clean by signing up for tasks. There are weekly groups and daily activities, monthly out of town or in town outings that may include going out to eat, to a movie, seeing a sporting event or whatever else members decide to do that month. There are two support staff in house and a peer support specialist.

The Early Childhood Education Center, for ages 3-5 years old, uses a Montessori-inspired curriculum. Operates weekdays, morning through afternoon, throughout the year.

The Out-of-School Program targets school aged children between the ages 5-13. Monday-Friday, program participants are picked up from school and brought to the Center. Includes homework help, communication activities, college planning, entrepreneurship programming, mentorship and volunteer opportunities.

Serves as the lead agency for the Community Learning Center (CLC) at Culler Middle School. CLCs serve as a collaborative component between schools' administrative staff and community based organizations and provides extended learning opportunities for both students and families.

The Health Outreach Program is advocating for the African American community in Lincoln by providing basic health care information and ensuring that there are no barriers to getting care. Targets African American adults who do not have a medical or dental home and/or have not seen a doctor in the past year.

Breast Cancer Outreach Initiative empowers all women, especially African American women to do preventive screenings and if necessary, helps them receive treatment. This program ensures that all women receive clinical breast exams.

The Talented Tenth Scholars Program provides African American males between the ages 13-18 with cultural awareness, social support, and academic enrichment. The Youth Empowerment Curriculum draws strength from the African American cultural ideal of collective work and responsibility, by creating a cohort of adolescent scholars who will experience the curriculum together and by matching them with mentors. It aims to motivate the youth to work for the betterment of themselves as individuals, and as conscious and committed members of their families and communities. The program's goal is to help the participants develop leadership and graduate from high school.

Strong Courageous Girls Program is a gender, culturally specific and evidence based prevention program for African American girls ages 12-18. Using the Smart and Strong Curriculum, this program operates twelve months a year and helps young women build self- esteem, develop coping skills for everyday life, and provides them the tools to reach their goals.

Moving Forward to End Domestic Violence financially empowers women by enabling survivors of interpersonal violence to achieve financial empowerment and job readiness through culturally appropriate services.
