SAFE CHILDREN PROGRAM | CRISIS NURSERY

Provides 24-hour emergency care for children and support to strengthen families in crisis. Available for families who are experiencing a crisis/emergency and no other resources are available to help. Services are voluntary, confidential, and offered at no cost to the parent. If needed, basic care items such as diapers, wipes, formula, and clothing may be available.

Temporary, short term facility for runaway, homeless, or agency/court placed youth ages 0-18. Provides therapeutic counseling, crisis intervention, educational tutoring, basic living skills, and 24 hour supervision.

Offers various support services to families with children through a cooperative of area churches. Trained volunteers and staff work with parents facing chronic stress or crisis to find resources and supports that can help. The following services are offered with volunteers from local churches:

Crisis Child Hosting: Temporary care of vulnerable children to give parents a safe option during a crisis.

Child Respite Hosting: Hosting children for shorter periods (typically a few hours to a few days a couple of times a month). This provides parents with respite relief and allows for stabilization.

Mentoring and Advocacy Services for Parents: focuses on working with parents to develop goals and relationships/friendships to decrease isolation and increase support for the parent. Advocates can also help parents find local resources to help relieve stress.

Parent Share and Support provides emergency/crisis childcare services to families in Buchanan, Delaware, and Fayette counties. Services are a short-term solution to assist in childcare needs such as medical emergency, counseling appointment, court proceeding, domestic violence, work, or school. Parent Share and Support staff work to place the child(ren) with a state registered provider in their area.

CRISIS NURSERY | BRIGHTPOINT - CENTRAL REGION

Provides a safe haven through crisis care for children at risk of abuse or neglect. Assists stressed and in-need families facing an unexpected crisis caused by illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, and other issues that can overwhelm a parent.

Specialized staff provide nurturing and attentive care to children (ages 0-6). Staff work with the parents or caregivers to help them through the crisis that led them to the Crisis Nursery. The Crisis Nursery Hotline provides telephone support to families who are dealing with a crisis. If a parent needs advice on how to soothe their baby, reassurance they are doing all they can, or even just someone to talk to during a stressful time, they are encouraged to call.

Provides limited diapers and related supplies.

Provides an emergency youth shelter for individuals aged 17 and under who are in need of temporary residential care due to family emergencies, risk of abuse or neglect, or other crises. The shelter ensures the provision of basic needs, counseling services, educational support, medical care, and resources to aid in recovery from trauma.

Also offered are therapeutic services to address behavioral, emotional, or substance use challenges. Additionally, the program fosters skills development and social interaction among peers, creating a supportive environment for healing and growth.
