MATURA Taylor County Outreach Center

Provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation with food and/or shelter. Homeless prevention services can assist families who are facing eviction or utility disconnection in preventing their family from becoming homeless. Crisis funds may be available for one month’s rent, utilities, or groceries for a short period of time. This assistance is intended for individuals and families who need temporary, one-time assistance to resolve an emergency situation.

Opening Doors

Provides a safe place for all women and children of all ages who find themselves homeless due to circumstances beyond their control. The shelter program includes assistance, food, referrals and advocacy with community services. The length of a woman's stay can up to one year in emergency shelter.However, some women can get extensions if a move to permanent housing is imminent or they may move to Maria House or Francis Apartments to continue to work on their goals.

Siena Francis House Emergency Shelter - Women's Shelter and Men's Shelter

Shelter provides 360 beds for men ages 19 and over. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served daily. Offers a bed, showers, and storage for personal belongings. Services for clients include case management and medical and psychiatric services.

Health clinics include:

- Charles Drew Medical Clinic:  Schedule varies weekly. Patients must schedule appointment through clinic; call (402) 345-9860.

- Visiting Nurse Association:  Monday and Thursday in the Services Center from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm, and in the Baright Shelter from 3:30 pm-7 pm.

- Creighton University Magis Clinic:  Saturday afternoon medical clinic.

Iowa Homeless Youth Centers

Provides a safe place for at-risk and homeless youth (ages 16-24) in the Polk County area to connect with services. Services include street outreach, drop-in services, daily meals, emergency beds, an art studio, a computer lab, and mental health counseling options. 

The center also offers connections to additional YSS supportive housing programs, such as Lighthouses, Transitional Living Program, and Rapid Re-housing. Supportive services may include educational opportunities, life skills training, financial planning, and counseling to help youth and young adults, including single mothers and their infants, achieve self-sufficiency and progress toward their goals.

Dixon PADS Shelter

Provides temporary shelter housing for single men, single women, and families. Men are in separate residences from women and children even if the rest of their family is in the women's shelter. Residents are able to stay at the shelter for a maximum of 6 months as they work on a transition plan for self-sufficiency. The shelter provides referrals and support to residents as they work on their transition plan.

Muscatine Center for Social Action

EMERGENCY MEN'S HOUSING: Overnight housing is available for single men. At 9 pm each evening, the gymnasium converts into a sleeping space. The gym can accommodate up to 45 men, but solutions can be made if there are more. Guests have a designated space within the gym, a mattress, bedding and pillows, towels, and basic supplies. A locker and tub are also assigned for storage of personal items. Overnight housing guests share a day room, bathroom, and laundry. This short-term overnight shelter is designed to help guests transition in to on-site apartment living while securing an income source. The following is available to guests of MCSA: 24-hour staffing assistance; Food, clothing, and other basic need items; Educational opportunities and support programs; Gymnasium access; Computer access. Check-in for Overnight Housing is available daily from 6 am until 10 pm. Identification will be requested at the time of check-in. EMERGENCY FAMILY AND SINGLE WOMEN'S HOUSING: The Family & Individual Housing Units provide a secure living space for families with children and single women.  Eight private rooms are available, and accommodations can be made for any size family.  Each unit includes beds, bedding, pillows, towels, and basic supplies.  Additional beds or cribs are available as needed. The units share a large open living space, kitchenette, bathroom, and laundry.  Space is always available for those in Muscatine County who need a place to stay.
