Nebraskans may apply online for multiple assistance programs, including:

Advises and aids veterans and their dependents in applying for federal benefits through compensation or pension claims. Emergency financial assistance for basic necessities such as rent and utility payments, and burial assistance may be available. Can also assists with applications for benefits made available by federal, state or local laws.

Provides assistance on a temporary basis for a limited time for basic needs that may include rent/lot rent; interest on mortgage, utilities-gas, electric, water; food vouchers for clients who are unable to work, limited medical, dental, prescriptions (emergency/urgent only, must be applied for prior to receiving treatment), and burial expensed.  Cannot be on Subsidized Housing, a student, receive Social Security, or a Veteran.

Provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation with food and/or shelter. Homeless prevention services can assist families who are facing eviction or utility disconnection in preventing their family from becoming homeless. Crisis funds may be available for one month’s rent, utilities, or groceries for a short period of time. This assistance is intended for individuals and families who need temporary, one-time assistance to resolve an emergency situation.

Offers assistance to those in need with rent, utilities, food, and burial expense assistance. Must meet eligibility guidelines.

Financial assistance provided through this program may include rent, mortgage payments, utilities, clothing and non-food items. There are no funds available to assist with application fees or deposit assistance.

An individual must currently reside within the geographic boundaries of Douglas County in order to make application for continuous assistance through the Douglas County Department of General Assistance.

Assistance is limited to those who are not eligible for other public assistance and/or do not have sufficient income or resources to meet all or part of their shelter needs.

All General Assistance payments are made directly to the landlord, and/or utility company.

Provides an additional pay intended to help service members pay for housing based on the housing costs in local civilian housing markets when government quarters are not provided. The allowance a service member receives is based on their rank, the housing location, and whether or not the service member has dependents.

Provides rental assistance for affordable, safe, and sanitary housing to qualifying families with a disabled person living in the household. Provides gap assistance to families waiting for a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher.
