Nebraska Veterans' Aid Fund is a temporary emergency aid fund to assist veterans and their eligible family members if an unforeseen emergency occurs and are legal residents of this state on the date of application. Aid can only be used for food, fuel, shelter, wearing apparel, medical or surgical aid, and funeral expenses. Eligibility includes veterans who served on active duty of the Armed Forces of the United States, other than active duty for training, who were discharged or otherwise separated with a characterization of honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died while in service or as a direct result of such service. To be eligible the dependent must meet the following requirements: Is a resident of this state and meets the institution's requirements for establishing residency for purposes of paying instate tuition.
