Provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation with food and/or shelter. Homeless prevention services can assist families who are facing eviction or utility disconnection in preventing their family from becoming homeless. Crisis funds may be available for one month’s rent, utilities, or groceries for a short period of time. This assistance is intended for individuals and families who need temporary, one-time assistance to resolve an emergency situation.

Assists veterans, their widows, widowers, wives, and minor children with filling out forms to enroll in VA Healthcare system as well as burial benefits, education, home loan assistance, VA pensions, and Veterans Affairs Medical Van Available. If a veteran needs a ride to a medical appointment, they may contact the Veterans Affairs Director at 641-373-0349 to arrange transportation with the VA Medical Van.

Allamakee County Family Services - Waukon

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) assists low-income homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. Also encourages households to make regular utility payments, to promote energy awareness and to encourage reduction of energy usage. All customers applying for this prgram will simultaneously be making an application for weatherization assistance as required by state law. Assistance is based on household income. size, type of fuel, and type of housing. Applications accepted October 1-April 30 for the elderly and disabled households and November 1-April 30 for the rest of the households.

Warren County Offices

Provides assistance to Warren County residents who meet county guidelines. Assistance is given to those in need and poor who are unable to get assistance from other sources or that assistance is being delayed. Applicants must apply for all possible state and federal programs they may qualify for in order to receive assistance and comply with these programs. Assistance includes the services food pantry, rental assistance, utility assistance (must have a disconnect and made payments), medical, dental, and prescription assistance, as well as information and referral for such needs. Veterans that have served during designated times and have an honorable discharge would need to contact the office of Warren County Veteran Affairs to complete the application with them.

Those applying for Utility Assistance from G.A. must have an acceptance or denial letter from LIHEAP. Cremation Expense Assistance may be available to those who meet the income guidelines. Medical Expense Assistance may be available for medical/prescription supplies and assistance with transportation to out of town appointments.
