A division of the Polk County Department of Community, Family and Youth Services that provides assistance to victims of crimes and includes the following programs: Violent/Personal Crime Assistance Program; Rape/Sexual Assault Care Center; Child Sexual Abuse Resource Coalition (C-SARC); Intra-Family Sexual Abuse Program (IFSAP) and Volunteer Program. SART - Mid-Iowa Sexual Assault Response Team - assists in sexual assault cases to aid the victim. The purpose of SART is to provide quality, compassionate and consistent care to victims of sexual assault. Free service. COPING AFTER SUICIDE support group for families and/or friends of suicide victims FREE COUNSELING and advocacy services for anyone affected by a violent crime or sexual assault (children and adults). CASE COORDIANTION provided for Child Sexual Abuse Resource Coalition (C-SARC) and Intra-Family Sexual Abuse Program (IFSAP) cases. Volunteers and interns are trained to assist victims by providing crisis intervention, court advocacy, phone counseling and support group facilitation. VIOLENT CRIME ASSISTANCE PROGRAM provides crisis intervention for victims, witnesses and their families in cases who have suffered emotional or physical trauma resulting from violent crimes. Purpose is to assist the victims and their families through support, counseling, advocacy, and agency liaison; as well as assisting the criminal justice system by helping the victim to become a good witness. Special services available to families of homicide victims. TEEN SEXUAL ASSAULT GROUP / SIG-NA is a group for teen sexual assault at various high schools, on various days and times. Nebraska Commission on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice

Provides funds to help victims of crimes who have been injured or have suffered a financial loss as a result of the crime.  Types of expenses reimbursed include medical expenses, lost wages while under a doctor's care, funeral expenses ($5,000 maximum), headstone/grave marker, counseling or therapy ($2,000 maximum), and crime-scene cleanup ($1,000 maximum). The program does not cover expenses paid for by other sources, such as insurance, sick leave and paid time off, government programs, or the offender via restitution. Maximum is $25,000 per incident. Eligible persons include: -A victim who suffers bodily injury -A dependent/legal representative of a homicide victim -A parent/guardian who is responsible for the medical expenses of a minor -A person who was injured in a DUI or the driver intended to hit the victim -A person who was injured while aiding a crime victim or law enforcement officer Those not eligible include: -A person injured in a motor vehicle accident -A person whose actions caused the incident and/or injuries -A person who helped the offender commit a crime or was injured/killed while committing a crime

Medical Advocacy:

Trained advocates respond to local hospitals 24-hours a day. They can accompany a survivor through the evidence collection and medical treatment process. Advocates provide support, give information about options and rights, and assist with safety planning.

Legal Advocacy:

Legal advocates can assist with navigating the civil and criminal justice process. This includes assistance in filing for Civil No Contact and Stalking No Contact Orders. They can also help individuals assert their rights as crime survivors and accompany them to meetings with officials and court hearings.

Provides volunteer mediators to bring offenders and victims of crime together for a face to face meeting. The goal is for parties most affected by criminal actions to have an opportunity to safely meet, assisted by a volunteer mediator, to discuss what happened, how it felt when it happened, how it feels now, what is needed for restitution. Specialized training is offered to anyone interested in becoming a volunteer mediator. Time commitment for volunteer hours will vary depending upon the cases referred.
