Older Iowans Legislature (OIL)

OLDER IOWANS LEGISLATURE (O.I.L.) is a unicameral model legislative body which provides an annual opportunity for older Iowans to participate directly in the legislative process. Annually in September, a two-day legislative session is held at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, at which time O.I.L. delegates from across the state submit bills and share in the debate to select five priority bills. The top five priority bills are then submitted to the Iowa General Assembly and the members of the Older Iowans Legislature vigorously advocate for passage of the top five priority bills during the legislative session. The Older Iowans Legislature is now a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Iowa with its state headquarters housed in the offices of Aging Resources of Central Iowa. Any citizen of Iowa, age 60 and older is eligible to join the Older Iowans Legislature for an annual membership contribution of $25.00. The state membership is divided into nine districts in Iowa, based on older adult population and the Central District of the Older Iowans Legislature meets monthly in the offices of Aging Resources of Central Iowa.
