Provides FIP recipients with experience that will enhance their work skills and increase their employment potential, while providing a service that will benefit the community. Participants receive individualized and group support in resume development, job search and interviewing strategies, and networking. Job Placement Specialists help participants assess their strengths and needs, set personal goals, and explore their vocational interests. Staff also connect job seekers to area employers.

Certified for Success employment training programs include retail, hospitality, food handling, essential computer skills, IT Support Professional, and custodial certification programs. A combination of onsite and classroom training helps prepare participants for success.

They will, to the maximum extent possible, learn and perform all assignments associated with a position. Participants do not receive wages for work performed, but instead receive a transportation allowance, child care assistance if necessary, and Workers' Compensation Coverage from Promise Jobs.

Provides assistance with developing resumes, applying for jobs on-line, and utilizing Job Search through the Illinois Worknet website.

Will also cover the cost of tuition and permit testing for the CDL Certification program. This area of employment has been identified as a short-term training area with high employment opportunities at a good living wage. The program is coordinated through Richland Community College, where the training is provided. Must provide a minimum of 2 pre-hire letters from potential employers before being approved for the CDL Certification program.

Several other funding sources are available for the CDL certification. Income requirements and amount of tuition paid by Empowerment Opportunity Center varies for these programs. Please call for a prescreening and to obtain information about all CDL certification options.
