Provides assistance to residents who are needy and poor and in need of immediate assistance and who cannot obtain assistance from any other source. Recipients must be at least 18 years of age and meet current income and resource guidelines.

Assistance may be provided for rent, utilities, or indigent burial, to name a few. A voucher system is utilized with direct payment to the vendor, never cash. General Relief is unable to assist with deposits or first month rent payments.

Provides assistance on a temporary basis for a limited time for basic needs. Help may include rent/lot rent, interest on mortgage, utilities-gas, electric, water, possible prescription medication costs, burial assistance, and food vouchers for clients who are unable to work. Cannot be on Subsidized Housing, a student, receive Social Security, or a Veteran.

Locally administered welfare program that provides monthly financial assistance to persons who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs. To qualify, the individual must meet certain financial and residential criteria, and not be eligible for any other state or federal assistance programs.

Provides limited financial help.

Provides emergency financial assistance to low income individuals, without minor (age 17 and below) dependents, and who do not qualify for other financial aid programs (such as Social Security or TANF).

Offers general assistance monthly grant ($200) for those who qualify that can be used for any combination of the following, rent, utility bill (power, water, garbage), transportation (Decatur Public Transit), Kroger (personal needs).

Financial assistance provided through this program may include rent, mortgage payments, utilities, clothing and non-food items. There are no funds available to assist with application fees or deposit assistance.

An individual must currently reside within the geographic boundaries of Douglas County in order to make application for continuous assistance through the Douglas County Department of General Assistance.

Assistance is limited to those who are not eligible for other public assistance and/or do not have sufficient income or resources to meet all or part of their shelter needs.

All General Assistance payments are made directly to the landlord, and/or utility company.

- Emergency Assistance: Financial assistance to alleviate a life-threatening circumstance or meet an expense which jeopardizes employment. Individuals can receive Emergency Assistance only once a year. Applicants may be eligible for rent and utility assistance though this program.

- General Assistance: Financial assistance to meet basic needs. Provided every month but subject to work requirements.
