Provides assistance to Warren County residents who meet county guidelines. Assistance is given to those in need and poor who are unable to get assistance from other sources or that assistance is being delayed. Applicants must apply for all possible state and federal programs they may qualify for in order to receive assistance and comply with these programs. Assistance includes the services food pantry, rental assistance, utility assistance (must have a disconnect and made payments), medical, dental, and prescription assistance, as well as information and referral for such needs. Veterans that have served during designated times and have an honorable discharge would need to contact the office of Warren County Veteran Affairs to complete the application with them.

Additionally, the program may offer support for prescription medication needs, such as access to low-cost or hard-to-obtain medications and assistance with medication adherence. 

Financial assistance for burial or cremation expenses may also be available to help families cover funeral, cremation, or interment costs.

Pottawattamie County General Assistance

Provides rent, utility, or medication assistance. Does not assist with past due rent/utilities or rent/utility deposits. Does not assist anyone eligible or receiving FIP. Repayment agreement is required.

Interim Disability Program assists adults who are 100% disabled as deemed by their doctor and have zero income and resources in the household. All members of the household must meet requirements to qualify for this program.

Back to Work program provides assistance for up to 3 consecutive months not to exceed a fixed limit for a 1 month period. Clients must complete 40 volunteer hours and submit 8 job applications per month.

One-Time Needy Assistance Program provides assistance once within a Fiscal Year with the amount of assistance not to exceed a fixed limit; clients must have a plan to pay future bills.

Provides a Burial Assistance Program; approved person must have been previously residing in Pottawattamie County but considered homeless, i.e. indigent, transient.

The General Assistance Program is to be considered the agency of last resort; all callers will be directed to contact other assistance agencies prior to funding consideration.
