Intermediate program which takes a firm, zero-tolerance stance against drugs and violence. Students receive discounts at businesses and admission into special events and retreats for making a commitment to be alcohol, tobacco, other drug, and violence free. Weekly meetings are held at numerous local junior high schools.

Major program areas include:

- CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM: Promotes activities that encourage healthy living, embrace health screenings for early detection of disease, and encourage self-management of existing diseases. Works to reduce chronic diseases among racial/ethnic minorities and other vulnerable residents. Activities include community education on topics like reducing childhood obesity, increasing physical activity and healthy eating habits, diabetes prevention or control, learning to manage chronic health problems, and colorectal cancer awareness.

- INJURY PREVENTION and SAFE KIDS: Coordinates activities directed at reducing unintentional injuries and death. Print material, videos, and presentations are available on bike and pedestrian safety, fall prevention, child passenger safety/occupant restraints, and home safety. Monthly community-wide car seat check events are offered at no charge. Visit www.safekidslincoln.org for a schedule of events and call to make an appointment.

- TOBACCO PREVENTION AND CONTROL: Provides tobacco prevention information/education to schools, businesses and the community, and cessation referrals.

Provides health education and consultation in preventing tobacco use and cessation along with policy work for businesses and communities to prevent exposure to tobacco and nicotine products.

Provides programming in schools and throughout the community to prevent underage drinking, tobacco and illicit drug use, decrease risk factors, and increase protective measures in the community.

Educational presentations on tobacco, second hand smoke, smoke-free living, quitting smoking, and Latino specific information. Apartment tenant assistance to make apartments smoke-free, as well as technical assistance to property managers/landlords to increase smoke-free housing options within their properties.

Tobacco cessation counseling and treatment.

Women's tobacco educational support group in English and Spanish (Latinas, Tabaco, y Cancer group).

Tobacco Information/Education - Provides tobacco/ENDS information and resources. Provides information on coalition engagement, volunteering, and Nebraska Quitline.

Tobacco-Free Businesses - assists with implementing a smoke and/or tobacco-free policy.

Smoke-Free Housing - assists with smoke and/or tobacco-free policies. Assists in finding smoke free housing.


Services are provided in partnership with Heartland Family Service, American Lung Association, Creighton University Medical Center, Douglas County Department of Health, University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health - Center for Reducing Health Disparities.

Offers tobacco cessation programs and counseling from a health care provider or trained counselor. Quitline Iowa offers Quit Coaches to help individuals figure out how to quit and stay tobacco free. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or enroll online for further assistance with quitting. Also offers a Youth Tobacco Prevention program for youth needing help with quitting.

Health education programs, including topics such as nutrition, tobacco, cholesterol, childhood obesity, heart health, and more.

Cancer education includes brochures, speakers, signs and methods for prevention and detection, and covers topics such as breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, and smoking.  Support group information also available. Contact by phone for services.

Community coalition aiming to aid communities in the coordination and integration of resources, and the use of evidence-based practices to reduce substance abuse. Focused on decreasing youth alcohol use and other substances by connecting parents with resources. Community meeting take place the fourth Tuesday of the month, at the Community Partners office.

The positive pressure coalition meeting meets the 3rd Tuesday of every other month at the public library at 12 pm.
