Warming centers open across the community when daytime temperatures are frigid.

All warming centers open in below-freezing temperatures and officially issued weather advisories and warmings, or when wind chills are below freezing. Open to the public with the only exception being personal ban/barres from a facility. Service and emotional support animals are welcome.

EXTREME COLD WARMING LOCATIONS | WINNEBAGO COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Provides temporary refuge from extreme hot/cold weather. Individuals may access the library to escape extreme heat or cold and to utilize the public drinking fountain.

WINTER EMERGENCY SHELTER | CUNNINGHAM TOWNSHIP

Offers an overnight shelter for men only with showers, hot breakfast, transportation support and connection to case management, health care, and other services. Provides 100 bed counts but ability to expand to 176 if needed. Individuals must be screened at Cunningham Township - 205 West Green Street Urbana, IL before 4 pm Monday-Friday (excluding holidays); or between 6 pm-8 pm at STRIDES - 70 East Washington Champaign, IL on any day.

Emergency winter shelter will be located at Armory at Park and 2nd St., Champaign, IL.

WARMING CENTER | YOUTH EMERGENCY SERVICES INC.

A warming center is available to youth age 25 years or younger. Offers access to hot meals, case management, boutique, warming items, pantry, shower, and laundry. No animals are allowed.

HOMELESS OUTREACH PROGRAM | SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OMAHA

In addition to providing food, clothing, and other personal care necessities to anyone who requests them, staff additionally provides outreach assistance, including:

- Serving as a homeless warming center on especially cold winter days and a cooling center on very hot/humid days.

- Providing the homeless with bags of ice to help them cool off, personally, as well as to help keep fresh any food items they may have.

- SSVP Omaha staff visit homeless neighbors in their camps, providing essentials like food, water, blankets, and fuel. They also help connect them to critical services, such as medical care and housing.

HOMELESS DROP-IN CENTER | CARPENTER'S PLACE

Day time drop-in center for adults who are homeless. All services at the facility are accessed through case management. Residential services may be available but must be accessed through case management.


Services include showers and bathrooms, storage for personal belongings, laundry facility, kitchen, employment and training, classrooms, art room, office space, and donation room.


Also serves as a warming center during regular hours in the winter months.

FRIENDSHIP CENTER | DEWITT COUNTY FRIENDSHIP CENTER

Offers an older Adult and Senior Activity Center that provides seniors a place to gather and socialize. Staff will help refer those in need to other agencies for help as needed. The Center also acts as a warming/cooling center for the general population of DeWitt County during times of emergency or disaster.

The Friendship Center is also a Peace Meal congregate and home-delivery site. Peace Meals are available weekly, Monday through Friday.
