Locations for the 2025 tax season:

For 2024, tax clinics will be held every Wednesday and Saturday in February.

The Wednesday tax clinics will be held at Central Community College (550 South Technical Boulevard, Hastings, NE 68901), in the Apple Room in the Student Hall. Dates are February 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. Hours are 6 pm to 8 pm.

The Saturday tax clinics will be held at the Hastings Public Library (314 North Denver Avenue, Hastings, NE 68901), in the upstairs meeting room. Dates are Feb 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th. Hours are 10 am to 1 pm.

All tax clinics will be open to both appointments and walk-in clients as available. For clients looking to make an appointment, sign up at https://vita.unl.edu/signup/.

Each tax return takes approximately 1 hour; individuals must arrive no later than one hour before the tax clinic ends to assure enough time for a volunteer to assist in completing the taxes during the session.

Free, year-round tax assistance is also available on the Internet. Taxpayers can post tax questions to online tax assistors by visiting the website.

When scheduling an appointment, choose a site location and date. All location will be face-to-face; virtual preparation is available in addition to facilitated self-assistance (schedule an appointment under the 'Get Free Tax Help' tab).

If Lincoln Public School and/or UNL is closed due to bad weather, all VITA sites are closed.

The scope of work that can be done within the VITA site is defined by the IRS. If a return is considered "out of scope" for the site, VITA Volunteers will not be able to prepare the return.

Tax preparation offered free to low and moderate income individuals. Available during tax season beginning February 3, 2025. To file taxes electronically on a married filing jointly tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
Those looking to get their taxes done MUST bring a copy of their taxes from last year. Transcripts for last year's taxes can be obtained for FREE by either visiting the website, IRS.gov, or by calling (800) 908-9946. Taxpayers must also have copies of all income statements from the year (W2s and 1099s), as well as their driver's license or other photo ID and their social security card or ITIN to verify identity of all people on the tax return, including children.If claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit, your refund will likely be delayed slightly due to IRS processing delays.
