Assistance with making an adoption plan or parenting plan.

Parenting education. Support and education for baby's father on request.

Home studies for prospective adoptive parents.

Newborn care home for baby as a safe haven.

Offers to sell gently used clothing and accessories for adults and children.

Provides free tax credit clinics and prepares free federal and state income taxes for low to moderate income households.

Starting January 15, 2026, visit https://vita.unl.edu to schedule an appointment. Tax appointments begin Feb 1 and run through Apr 10 and are available at multiple sites in Lincoln. To see the days and times for all the locations, visit the website to download the site schedule.

When scheduling an appointment, choose a site location and date. All location will be face-to-face; virtual preparation is available in addition to facilitated self-assistance (schedule an appointment under the 'Need Assistance' tab).

If Lincoln Public School and/or UNL is closed due to bad weather, all VITA sites are closed.

The scope of work that can be done within the VITA site is defined by the IRS. If a return is considered "out of scope" for the site, VITA Volunteers will not be able to prepare the return.

Offers Child Care Expense Assistance through the Iowa Department of Human services is available to the children of income-eligible parents who are absent for a portion of the day due to employment or participation in academic or vocational training or PROMISE JOBS activities. Assistance may also be available for a limited period of time to the children of a parent looking for employment. APPLY TO BE A REGISTERED CHILD CARE PROVIDER. Serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.

Education program assisting the general population with preserving and fostering home and commercial landscape and community gardens.

Education programs for those receiving SNAP that teaches how to purchase, cook, and eat fruit and vegetables that are nutritionally sound.

All volunteer animal rescue organization. Obtains medical care and shelter for stray and abandoned cats and dogs until they are adopted by utilizing a wide network of volunteer animal foster homes.

Animals available for adoption are listed on the website, with some cats available at the local PetSmart.

Offers volunteer practitioners and nurses who provide limited free basic medical care to individuals ages 18 and older who have immediate medical needs but no insurance and limited means. Referrals to other local health care agencies as needed. Cannot serve women who are pregnant or persons with mental health issues. Cannot provide dental services.

Provides health care and specialty health care services, including mental health care. Can also provide family and internal medicine services.
