Burlington Area Community Action Center

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) provides supplemental help for the winter heating bills November 1-April 30. Those over 60 or disabled may apply for the season starting in October.

LIHEAP Crisis Assistance, when funding is available, may help with disconnect notices, furnace repair or furnace replacement for homeowners. Crisis assistance is dependent upon funding availability and may be available between April-October.

May have some crisis funding available outside the normal LIHEAP months with local funding, call local County Outreach Office for availability of funding.

Information and entertainment resource for all ages; specializes in serving as a popular materials library, community activities center, formal educational support center, and independent learning center. Adult Services provides answers to questions by telephone and in person, collections of books and media on a broad range of topics, and recreational reading and literacy materials.  Classes and programs of interest to adults. Youth Services provides informational and recreational materials and programs for children from birth through 12th grade, and their caregivers.  Collection includes materials in a variety of formats, including books, DVDs, CDs, and more.  Programs and services include toddler and preschool story times, seasonal reading programs, a parent/toddler program, book talks, group tours, and classes and programs of interest to youth.

Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center

Offers comprehensive services to support individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and homelessness. Services include crisis intervention counseling, legal, medical, and personal advocacy, safe shelter, safety planning, transitional and emergency housing, and community education and outreach. 

Specialized programs address domestic violence intervention, helping offenders understand and take responsibility for their actions, develop healthy relationships, and learn conflict resolution and stress management skills. 

Advocacy is provided with landlords, schools, employers, and other professionals to secure rights, prevent eviction or utility shut-offs, and ensure safety. 

Child-focused initiatives include sexual assault prevention programs that educate children about personal boundaries, recognizing inappropriate behavior, and seeking help, as well as support groups for individuals affected by child abuse, offering emotional support, resources, and information. CIAC staff and volunteers travel to meet victims to accommodate their needs. All services are free, voluntary, confidential, and available to all without discrimination.
