Offers, as resources allow, to help refugees and asylees reach economic self-sufficiency and to them with any problems, interests and concerns they may have. The Bureau of Refugee Services works to serve as a central clearinghouse in order to refer refugees and asylees to any resource necessary and available to them. The Bureau is the service agency for all refugees enrolled in FIP, the state welfare reform program. Now offering a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Provides homeless coordination services and a truancy program. Truancy Program assists schools and families with services to ensure children age 6-17 attend school and helps eliminate any obstacles that may prevent this from happening.

Homeless coordination works with homeless children to ensure free, appropriate public education including a priority to preschool programs, the choice of staying in the school of origin or attending the school nearest their shelter or temporary home, immediate enrollment even when medical records cannot be produced at time of enrollment, assistance with transportation, if needed, and helps families with supply needs (i.e., personal hygiene products, undergarments, school supplies, PE clothes, alarm clocks).

Offers a community-based housing program providing affordable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness through a shared independent living model. The program supports long-term housing and may also be used for rapid rehousing or permanent housing placements.

Serves veterans, individuals recently released from incarceration, individuals who have completed addiction recovery programs, survivors of domestic violence or human trafficking, and others experiencing homelessness or housing instability who are seeking stable housing.

Provides development training and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Services determines eligibility for state funded developmental disability services. Programs may also provide referrals, linkage to services and provides advocacy and monitoring of individuals with developmental disabilities. Programs include prioritization for urgency of need for services (PUNS), preadmission screening (PAS), and individual service and support advocacy (ISSA).

Helps senior citizens, who might otherwise need nursing home care, to remain in their own homes by providing in-home and community-based services. Services include comprehensive care coordination, adult day services, in-home services (cleaning, meals, laundry, shopping/running errands, and personal hygiene), and an automated medication dispenser service.

Works with families to get them enrolled in the 1st Five Healthy Mental Development Initiative. 1st Five program builds partnerships between physician practices and public service providers to enhance high-quality well-child care. 1st Five promotes the use of developmental tools that support healthy mental development for young children during the first five years. By using a tool for all children that includes social-emotional development and family risk factors, providers are able to identify children at risk for developmental concerns that, if left untreated, would play out later in life.

Provides hospice services. Services include care in patient’s home or in a home-like setting, pain control and comfort measures, physical, emotional, spiritual and social support, and support for family members.

Provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone free of charge with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low-to-moderate income for the 2026 tax season. Free, year-round tax assistance is also available on the Internet. Taxpayers can post tax questions to online tax assistors by visiting the website.

Provides a food pantry to eligible households who may need help with food. Food help is given once per month. USDA commodities may also be distributed through the food pantries.

Services include supervision of individuals ordered to probation by the court to ensure compliance with conditions and ensure public safety.
