Provides a comprehensive preschool program that provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically as they prepare for kindergarten and beyond.

Provides early childhood education services for children. Services include learning a variety of subjects including math, science, literature, music, and art. Services may also include a summer camp.

Assists low-income homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. Assistance is based on household income, size, type of fuel and type of housing. Application period is from October 1-August 31 for elderly and disabled households and November 1-August 31 for the rest of the households. Persons applying must meet 200% poverty guidelines.

LIHEAP also offers a crisis program that may be able to assist homeowners who are with no heat or limited heat. The furnace component for crisis runs October 1-April 30th.

Offers a program for parents and youth individuals ages 10-14 to work together and build relationships. Participants will practice skills, play learning games, and do family projects in highly interactive sessions. Sessions are designed to increase family bonding, build positive communication skills, and solve problems together.

As of 11/20/25, no longer accepting applications but community members may still call and see if the office might have extra gift cards to Dollar Fresh and Family Fare grocery stores in Richardson County for food for the families (distributed on December 14th).

Provides financial literacy workshops to help families and individuals achieve stability and secure homeownership. Can also help, when funding is available, with back rent and overdue mortgage payments. Services include credit building, debt reduction coaching, homeownership/homebuyer education, access to income support services (emergency rent and mortgage help when funding available), employment coaching/career services, and financial education and coaching.

Provides assessments, group therapy, and individual counseling, including specialized counseling services for individuals who have committed or are at risk of committing sexual offenses. A Department Psychologist conducts the assessments, and trained staff deliver group therapy and individual counseling to address and work toward eliminating violent and/or abusive behaviors.

Provides an Operation Cat Snip (Trap-Neuter-Return) program. Humanely and effectively reducing Des Moines’ outdoor community cat population by altering, vaccinating, ear-tipping and returning cats to the areas where they are already living and thriving. The program is free to community cat caregivers in Des Moines.

Provides a free, one-stop resource to connect homeowners with important tools, including access to counseling services, legal advice, mortgage payment assistance programs, foreclosure prevention events, and tips on how to avoid mortgage fraud.

Provides therapy for a wide range of problems including couples problems, depression, anxiety, childhood and adolescent behavioral issues, trauma, and grief. Services are available outside of normal business hours.

Offers a case manager that provides information, guidance, and referrals for those in need in areas such as housing, employment, food, clothing, utilities, rent, mental health, and elderly services. 

Provides direct care service to address the unique mental health, physical wellbeing and social needs of young people and their families as they transition into adulthood.
