Weatherization program is a federal grant program established to help reduce the heating and cooling costs for low income persons, particularly the elderly, disabled, and children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. **Weatherization is NOT a home remodeling or renovation program. It does not repair or replace roofs or siding, and cannot work on homes where there is a roof leak. Weatherization cannot install storm windows or doors, or skirting on mobile homes.

Lutheran Family Services - Omaha Behavioral Health

Mobile crisis response provides immediate services when law enforcement, area shelters, and referrals from The Nebraska Family Helpline are confronted with someone experiencing a mental health crisis. Therapists help resolve an immediate behavioral health crisis to avoid emergency protective custody holds, avoid inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, and link individuals to community services.

Post-crisis services include a 90-day stabilization program offered in partnership with other agencies.

Peer Support Specialists available to those referred through Omaha Police Department officers who encounter individuals in crisis.

Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management

Provides limited financial assistance in the event of a Governor Disaster Declaration for eligible households that have disaster-related needs and are unable to meet such needs through other means. The program awards reimbursement grants to a maximum per household grant of $7,000. Household income must be at 200% of federal poverty level. Grants may be available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and for the expense of temporary housing. Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

- Must live in Governor Disaster Declaration area.

  • Must be a legal resident of the United States and at least 18 years old
  • Income guidelines for families, income must be at or below 200% of federal poverty level.
  • Individuals residing in the household must be able to verify occupancy.
- Application must be sent in within 45 days of declaration to your local Community Action Association. TO APPLY - There are 2 different ways to apply: 1. Print off an application, fill it out, then take it to your local Community Action Partnership.

2. Go to your local Community Action Partnership and they can help you apply.

COUNTIES ELIGIBLE FOR ASSISTANCE: The Governor has issued a disaster proclamation for the following counties in Iowa:

- Emmet, Hancock, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Woodbury, and Worth Counties are now eligible for the Individual Disaster Assistance Grant and Disaster Case Management through the local community action agency in response to a severe weather incident (proclaimed May 20, 2026). Deadline to apply for the grant is July 6, 2026 (45 days from proclamation).

- Cherokee, Clay, Kossuth, Montgomery, and Ringgold Counties are now eligible for the Individual Disaster Assistance Grant and Disaster Case Management through the local community action agency in response to a severe weather incident (proclaimed May 22, 2026). Deadline to apply for the grant is July 6, 2026.

- Adams, Dubuque, Madison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, and Wapello Counties are now eligible for the Individual Disaster Assistance Grant and Disaster Case Management through the local community action agency in response to a severe weather incident (proclaimed June 12, 2026). Deadline to apply for the grant is July 27, 2026 (45 days from proclamation).

- Cass and Decatur Counties are now eligible for the Individual Disaster Assistance Grant and Disaster Case Management through the local community action agency in response to a severe weather incident (proclaimed June 16, 2026). Deadline to apply for the grant is July 31, 2026 (45 days from proclamation).

**If FEMA has declared the county as a National Disaster, clients should apply with FEMA first 1-800-621-3362 for Allamakee, Cass, Des Moines, Fayette, Henry, and Lee counties

Offers SERVSAFE® classes for food service professionals, providing comprehensive training on food hazards, proper food handling practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure food safety and prevent foodborne-illness outbreaks. 

Participants will gain knowledge to improve food quality and learn techniques that support the protection and utilization of food products. The program includes a 6-hour course and certification exam, offering the opportunity to become a certified Food Protection Manager through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Open to individuals in the restaurant and food service industry, the training also serves as a resource for those involved in commercial food production activities such as farms, aquaculture facilities, and other food-related ventures.

Center for Youth and Family Solutions - Bloomington (Morris)

Traditional Foster Care for children ages 0-18 whose families are unable or unwilling to meet the minimum standards of parents as defined by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Specialized Foster Care provides intensive services to behaviorally challenged children ages 3-18. Relative Foster Care allows children who need to be placed out of their home to be placed with relatives.

Aftercare Program is specially designed to assist children and their families upon their return home from living with a foster family.

Other services include foster parent recruitment, adoption conversions.

Assists in the Library and Archives Research. Whether researching as an author, educator, student, reporter, curator, archeologist, preservationist, historian or genealogist, research materials are provided on microfilm, and books. Most books are browsable on the shelves. Patrons who are interested in accessing the State Archives and Special Collections or Library materials that are not on the open stacks are encouraged to make an appointment and advise staff two business days in advance about the materials they would like to research.
