Will County Center for Community Concerns

Tax return preparation and electronic filing by IRS-certified volunteers. Customers pick up the tax packets and fill them out at home then return them so that tax preparers can complete them. Appointments are set towards the end of the process so the customer can sign-off on their returns. Once returns are signed, they can be electronically filed.

Clothing Help: assistance will be in the form of vouchers for either work/interview clothing, back to school clothing, or clothing in general for someone who is homeless. Utility Financial Assistance: must have a disconnect notice to get financial assistance for a utility bill, cannot have received financial assistance from IMPACT in the last 12 months, cannot have received material assistance from The Salvation Army in the last 12 months.

Offers free legal advice to the victims of the April 26 and May 21, 2024 severe storms who are experiencing legal problems due to the storms. Legal problems may include issues such as: FEMA denials, problems with insurance, landlord/tenant issues, unemployment benefits or denials, employment issues, contractor issues and identity theft. After calling 1-866-761-4692, callers will be connected to the Hotline voicemail. Callers should leave their name, phone number, brief description of their legal problem, and whether the issue is urgent. Callers will receive a call back from an experienced Iowa Legal Aid staff member to go through a screening. Callers who meet Iowa Legal Aid’s guidelines will be connected with an Iowa Legal Aid attorney.

The program begins with the development of an individualized recovery plan, followed by daily support from a specialized team. Daily schedule and activity accountability and 12-Step meetings add an additional layer of support as clients embrace skills such as:

- Creating a healthy routine;

- Practicing positive coping skills;

- Writing a resume/interview preparation/career coaching;

- Managing personal finances, and more.

Benefits include a structured environment and peer support. Also offers connections to individual and group therapy, as well as life skills training and other educational programs.
