Landfill Division has responsibilities for both active and closed landfills; Douglas County contracts with Waste Management for the general operation and maintenance of the active Pheasant Point solid waste landfill site at Highway 36 and 216th Street.

Landscape maintenance and snow removal for various county offices.

Noxious and nuisance weed monitoring and control as required. Provides field inspection services based on the complaints received and to areas that have a known history of noxious weed problems. Random inspections are also conducted throughout the County’s area of responsibility.

The service supports transportation needs for various purposes, including medical appointments, trips to child care or children's activities, shopping, banking, social events, and other non-emergency needs. Door-to-door or curb-to-curb transportation is available to ensure accessibility for those who require special accommodations.

Taxpayer services include: Accepting Cash payments, Account Inquiries (help with letters, notices and levies on your wages or bank account), Adjustments (changes to tax account information or payments) , Alien Clearances (Sailing Permits), Application for Taxpayer Assistance Order (ATAO), Copies of Tax Returns & Transcripts (Usually available for current year and three prior years) , Help with preparing Form 2290 (Heavy Vehicle Use Tax), Multilingual Assistance (over 150 languages translated), Federal Tax Return Preparation, Payments/Payment Arrangements, Procedural Inquiries, Solutions to Tax Issues, Tax Forms (based on availability), Tax Law Assistance (answers related to your individual Federal Tax Return), Taxpayer Identification Numbers. TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM offers assistance with tax questions, forms, etc. Mon-Fri 8 am-4:30 pm at local office, call to make an appointment. FREE FILE online available through the IRS - must make $84,000 or less to qualify for free filing online. VITA and TCE: is a program to assist low income, elders, and persons with disabilities with tax information and form preparation. State Supplement adds to the benefits of the federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Program to bring the income of aged and disabled individuals up to the need of standards of Nebraska. Additionally, some persons are not eligible for SSI payments, but qualify for a State Supplement payment because of different standards and regulations.

State Disability provides aid to needy persons who have a disability expected to last for at least six months, but less than the 12 months required to be eligible for the federal Supplemental Security Income Program.

Open to those facing barriers to employment, housing, transportation, and self-sufficiency. Funds can be given out to help those in need of car repairs, car registration and insurance, rent, utilities, cell phone reactivation/additional minutes, transportation accounts through HIRTA, UpLand, or the purchase of a bike. Other financial needs to maintain employment will be reviewed by a case by case basis. 

Provides basic foods, nutrition counseling and access to health services for pregnant woman, breast feeding and non-nursing mothers, infants and children up to five years of age.

Helps individuals who suffer from substance use disorders to overcome their cravings and increase their chances of total recovery.

Offers counseling, group therapy, and individualized treatment plans that are tailored to client needs.

Provides dental and oral health screenings, oral health education, nutrition education relating to oral health, fluoride varnish applications, and a referral to a dentist for comprehensive oral health services. The program targets pregnant women and children under age 21. VNS Dental Voucher Program is for children under 21 years old, who are without dental insurance and meet income guidelines.

Assists adults and youth who are in a crisis - suicidal, homicidal, and/or psychotic. The Crisis Responder will screen all crisis calls to assess the severity of the problem. If the Crisis Responder identifies the problem as severe, the Crisis Responder will contact the Licensed Mental Health Therapist on call to request a crisis assessment be conducted face to face.

The program is designed to prevent hospitalizations and Emergency Protective Custody by wrapping appropriate services around the client to allow him/her the opportunity to remain in the community.

Provides parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) rooms.

Located on the second floor of the Wurdeman Learning Center on the Omaha Home for Boys campus.

Provides a cabinet on the east side of the building with non-perishable foods that is available 24 hours a day.

Provides standard and emergency assistance to Air Force and Space Force families when unexpected financial emergencies arise with no-interest loans and grants. The programs are intended to help meet immediate financial emergency needs and help make a positive step toward a lasting financial solution.  Assistance many be in the form of loans or grants.

Assistance programs may help with emergency assistance for rent or utilities, medical or dental care costs, funeral expenses, vehicle expenses (repair, payment, insurance, gas, etc.), pet medical care or transportation to/from an overseas assignment, food, personal hygiene items, child care expenses, and more.

Provides quality childcare for children ages six weeks through school age. Open through the evening to meet the needs of parents who need extended care. Preschool is also provided.
