The program includes a 6-hour course and certification exam, offering the opportunity to become a certified Food Protection Manager through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Proctoring services are available with notice. Cardholders can receive a bus pass for traveling home on Iowa City Transit buses. Available year-round to all ages. Limit two passes per week, one pass per day.
Special services include, At Home services designed for patrons who are unable to come to the library because of a permanent or temporary physically disabling condition, and for those who live in nursing homes, care centers, or retirement residences. Outpatient counseling is available for adults and adolescents, and substance abusers or persons whose lives are impacted by substance abuse. Counseling takes place in the form of individual and group counseling, family counseling, and referral to appropriate self-help groups. For adolescents, the Mental Illness & Substance Abuse (MISA) specialist provides age-appropriate and individualized treatment to dual diagnosed adolescents, addressing issues such as behaviors, self-esteem, emotional and physical health, strengths and goals, substance abuse, history, relapse prevention, healthy recovery environments. The Recovery Resource Center is a central point of information to help individuals and families navigate substance use treatment and recovery services. Services include assessments, referral, treatment, and support services.
