Offers, as resources allow, to help refugees and asylees reach economic self-sufficiency and to them with any problems, interests and concerns they may have. The Bureau of Refugee Services works to serve as a central clearinghouse in order to refer refugees and asylees to any resource necessary and available to them. The Bureau is the service agency for all refugees enrolled in FIP, the state welfare reform program. Now offering a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Participants will also qualify for “Jump Start” training specially designed to help English Language Learners.

Early Head Start is an education-based program that supports families through child development, parenting education, nutrition, social services, parent involvement, family literacy, and health and disability services. The home visiting program consists of a home visitor making a weekly visit and providing two group socialization opportunities a month. The center-based program for parents working or going to school full time, provides free childcare for eligible infants and toddlers, which also promotes parental input through volunteer opportunities and parent interactions.
Head Start is a no-cost preschool program that serves children ages 0-5 and their families. Program includes health services, nutritional meals and snacks, disability services, educational services, social services, and parent involvement. Full-day and half-day programs are available.

Offers the Adventure Pass, a program designed to help individuals and families check out area attractions for free. The pass can be checked out with a library card and allows free admittance to the Blank Park Zoo, Science Center of Iowa, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Reiman Gardens, Museum of Danish America, and Des Moines Children's Museum. The Adventure Pass must be printed when presented upon admission into the attractions along with a photo ID.

The purpose of the Douglas County Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit is to provide a specialized group of trained prosecutors and support staff to aggressively prosecute Domestic Violence crimes.
The Douglas County Attorney recognizes the importance of communicating and cooperating with law enforcement and other public and private community agencies that provide services to families, victims, and perpetrators of domestic violence. A specialized Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit in coordination with other community agencies provides the best opportunity to achieve the following goals:
- To stop violence.
- To protect the victim from additional acts if violence committed by the Defendant.
- To protect the children or other family members from exposure to, or possible injury from domestic violence.
- To provide restitution to the victims.
- To hold the batterer accountable for their violent conduct.
