Senior Companion Program of Greater Siouxland, The - Rock Valley

Grandparent aged volunteers serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers in schools and daycare classrooms for children and youth who need extra attention. Work one-on-one or in small groups under supervision of trained professional staff at school, Head Start and daycare centers. The program offers a tax-free stipend for those who meet income guidelines, transportation reimbursement, and monthly training sessions.

Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency

Provides rental assistance to qualified low-income and moderate-income individuals and families with funding provided by HUD. The three assistance programs, created by HUD, are: SECTION 8 HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM is a program which provides rental assistance for participants who want to rent from a private landlord. Eligibility for the programs is determined by family composition, income, arrest history, past participation in Federally subsidized programs and monies owed to the Agency or other Federally subsidized programs. Approximately 3,000 households are served through Section 8 programs The application process can take 6 months to 4 years. Callers are welcome to call monthly to check if the waiting list is open.   PUBLIC HOUSING consists of units located throughout the city of Des Moines that are owned and managed by the Des Moines Municipal Housing agency. Participants in this program are offered a rental unit. Upon acceptance of a unit, a participant enters into a lease agreement with the Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency and pays approximately 30% of their monthly adjusted income for rent. FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM is a voluntary self-sufficiency program that is available only to residents of Public Housing or those receiving the Section & Voucher. The purpose of this program is to coordinate housing assistance with public and private resources to enable families to achieve economic independence. Services include: case management, education through workshops, and linkages to resources in the community.

Builds comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. Homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world.

Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a dining room, and a living room.

Provides in-home support for people with disabilities who want to be active members of the community. Services range from 10 hours per month to 24-hour support and supervision. Staff help with daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, and planning social activities such as calling friends or going to the movies.

Rosecrance - Ware Center

Offers residential treatment programs for adults with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Those programs serve men and women, women with children, young adults, veterans, and essential and frontline workers. Also offers medically monitored detox and withdrawal management.

Sober living recovery homes and halfway houses provide wraparound support for individuals in early recovery. Also offers supportive housing for individuals living with mental health disorders.

Adult outpatient services include therapy, specialty care such as TMS therapy and MAT, family support and education, psychiatric care, intensive community-based case management, and fulfillment of legal behavioral healthcare requirements related to court systems.
