Responsible for the treatment of wastewater and upkeep of the sanitary sewer system. Responsible for street maintenance, snow removal, and upkeep of storm water collection system. Responsible for cemetery/park cleanup and maintenance, cemetery grave marking and mowing of cemetery and parks. 

County level services provide direct emergency economic aid for vital necessities to veterans, their widow, and dependents, according to their needs. Personal visits for assistance and claims to housebound veterans or dependents. Must have an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge from active duty or wartime service. Must be a resident in Nebraska for the past one year and 6 months of that year in Holt County.

State level services do not require wartime service. Assist in completing applications for the Nebraska Veterans Aid Fund; fee exempt fishing and hunting permits; applications to the Nebraska Veterans Homes; waivers of tuition.

Federal level services provide and/or complete Veteran Administration forms for claims relating but not limited to service connected compensation, disability pension, widow's pension, burial allowance, grave markers/headstones, educational benefits, home loans, insurance, indebtedness, and character of service upgrades.

Offers a Space Heater Gifting Program, and during the summer a Fan Gifting Program for families and individuals who do not have working furnaces or air conditioners.

Fans and Space Heaters are available at our Resource Center during regular hours of operation. Supplies for this program our limited, Those in need are encouraged to call ahead to verify availability.

Insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers in Champaign County. SHIP counselors:

-- Answer questions about Medicare, Medicare Supplement insurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare managed care plans (HMO, PPO & PFFS) and other health insurance

-- Answer questions regarding prescription drug coverage through Medicare D and other sources

-- Assist in filing Medicare and Medicare Supplement claims

-- Analyze Medicare Supplement and long-term care insurance policies

-- Appeal claim denials

-- Answer questions about Extra Help, a federal program to assist low-income seniors with the costs associated with Medicare D.

Counselors will also assist with the completion of Extra Help applications.

Provides long-term care to help veterans and their families when dealing with a disability, chronic (long-lasting) illness, or serious health issues related to aging. Long-term health care services include 24 hour nursing and medical care, physical therapy, and help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, making meals, and taking medicine.

Helps senior citizens, who might otherwise need nursing home care, to remain in their own homes by providing in-home and community-based services. Services include:

- Comprehensive care coordination.

- Adult day services.

- In-home services (cleaning, meals, laundry, shopping/running errands, and personal hygiene).

- Emergency home response service.

- Automated medication dispenser service.

Offers a peer support group for individuals living with a mental health condition.

Provides energy assistance for eligible low income families in which a benefit is paid directly to the utility companies on behalf of eligible households, or directly to renters if the utility costs are included in their rent.

Some applicants may qualify for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP), where an eligible client pays a percentage of their income, receives a monthly benefit towards their utility bill, and receives a reduction in overdue payments for every on-time payment they make by the bill due date.
