Capstone Behavioral Health Care - Newton

The Jail Diversion Program is offered to individuals in Jasper and Poweshiek Counties who are in contact with the criminal justice system because of a mental health or co-occurring disorder.  Participation in the Jail Diversion Program is voluntary.  Program staff are able to assist with locating housing, applying for community assistance programs, locating employment, budgeting, promoting independent living skills and identifying and intervening where there are gaps in care. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Participants will also qualify for “Jump Start” training specially designed to help English Language Learners.

Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)/Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (Hawki) CHIP covers children under the age of 19 in working families who have too much income to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private health insurance, and are not enrolled in other health insurance.

In Iowa, CHIP is offered through Hawki. Some households may be required to pay a monthly premium based on family income. No family pays more than $40 a month. Some families pay nothing at all. Eligibility ends on the first day of the month following the month of the youth’s 19th birthday.

Psychiatric services are available as an adjunct to any services accessed by an individual at Transitions MHS (age 15 and older).

Counseling services are provided by bachelor's-level staff on an individual basis and address current-day stressors and build coping skills.

The Professional Library is a collection of books, educational journals, and audio and video tape resources designed for professional growth and development for educators. The Curriculum Laboratory is a display area for new curriculum resources which may be examined by educators to facilitate material selection and purchase. Both basic and supplemental resources with a variety of formats are available in all academic areas.

Parent-Educator Resource Library provides books, videos, and periodicals on disabilities, special education, and general parenting topics. Resources are available to parents and teachers for one-month checkout on the website.
