Ride to Thrive Program: DART’s half-fare program; acceptance in the program is good for two years with options to renew eligibility. Who is Eligible?
  • Individuals receiving food assistance
  • Individuals receiving housing assistance
  • Individuals receiving workforce assistance (including unemployment and childcare assistance)
How to Enroll in the Half Fare Program or DART's Ride to Thrive Program. 1. Go to the Customer Service window at DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. Bring the required documents for your program, visit www.ridedart.com/halffare to see what documents are eligible. 2. Ask for a Half Fare or Ride to Thrive enrollment form and fill it out with your information. Students do not need to apply, but can simply show a current school year ID to buy passes. 3. A Customer Service member will review the form. This usually takes a few minutes unless more documentation is required. 4. If approved, your photo will be taken and you will be given a Half Fare or Ride to Thrive program ID card with your name and photo. 5. Use this ID card to pay with cash on the bus or to buy a bus pass. Ask Customer Service to add Half Fare or Ride to Thrive passes to your MyDART account if you are using the MyDART app to pay. Cost to Ride: Riders accepted into the Half Fare program or DART’s Ride to Thrive program will receive an ID card* to use when they pay with cash on the bus or buy passes in the MyDART app, at Customer Service or at pass sales outlets. *Students with a current school year ID do not need a separate Half Fare ID card. Bluestem Health - Main Medical and Dental

Affordable, comprehensive primary health care especially for those with limited resources. Includes general physical exams and immunizations.

Services are provided regardless of ability to pay through a sliding fee discount program. Fees are calculated based on household size and documented annual income. All patients are eligible to apply for the sliding fee discount, even those with insurance.

Dental Clinic offers preventative dental services including: X-rays, exams, cleanings, fillings and extractions.

Pharmacy services offered to patients. Those eligible for the sliding fee program receive their medications at 30 to 50% below the retail market. Kohl's, Walgreens, Genoa, and Walmart fill all medications. Mobile Medical Clinic services, in which a van visits different locations to see patients.

HIV/STD testing provides confidential HIV/AIDS testing and counseling.

Transportation program provides a limited number of cab vouchers.

Mental health services are provided in-house through a partnership with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, as well as being referred out to collaborating behavioral health agencies.

Prenatal care for women.

Radiology has certified x-ray technicians to provide limited x-ray services.

Medication assistance programs help uninsured and underinsured patients apply to various pharmaceutical companies. Staff complete applications for patients to obtain their medication at an affordable cost.

Translation services offered to non-English speaking patients. Languages include Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Kurdish, Burmese, Karen, and Thai.

Lincoln's Challenge Academy

Provides a residential, semi-military style program designed for at-risk youth who have dropped out or are behind in school. Classes start in January and July and run for seventeen months.

The first five months are spent in residency at the campus in Rantoul, IL. Youth receive GED instruction or credit recovery, self-discipline, life coping skills, computer skills, and career counseling, and they perform community service projects. Post-graduation, cadets return to the community to continue education in a post secondary institution or vocational school, or obtain employment, with the guidance of a mentor from their community. Youth may be eligible to receive a monetary allowance to assist in education or employment costs.

Proteus, Inc - Fort Dodge

Provides comprehensive support services to immigrant or refugee farm workers who are legally authorized to work in the United States, migratory, and seasonal farmworkers, including educational assistance, short-term certification programs, job training, and career placements. The program aims to address chronic seasonal unemployment and underemployment experienced by agricultural workers by helping them cover costs related to career and training programs, such as tuition, books, tools, equipment, or stipends for class attendance.

Additionally, the program offers vocational assessment, job search assistance, and professional mentoring to prepare individuals for employment opportunities, including recognition of prior professional experience and obtaining initial work experience. Proteus administers the program as a recipient of the NFJP grant through the Employment and Training Administration, U.S. Department of Labor.
